Project Island Song - Bay of Islands, New Zealand

Imagine...the islands of the Eastern Bay of Islands alive with song again. Guardians of the Bay of Islands Inc., a local community group, Te Rawhiti Marae and Department of Conservation have joined together to get rid of rats, plant trees and bring back the birds to the islands of the Bay. This major project needs your help, not just now but on into the future. Rats can swim from the mainland and reinvade the islands. Help stop this: keep your boat, pack and tent rat-free; your shoes clear of weed-seeds; leave only footprints and take only photos. Join Guardians of the Bay of Islands Inc. and help the islands of the Bay live again.

The Eastern Bay of Islands consists of all of the islands in the chain from Motuarohia (Roberton Island) eastwards including Moturua, Motukiekie, Okahu, Waewaetorea, Urupukapuka, Poroporo, and all their associated islets.

You can help the islands of the Eastern Bay of Islands sing again by keeping your boat, pack and tent rat-free, your shoes clear of weed-seeds, leaving only footprints and taking only photos.

Project Island Song - Bay of Islands

The Guardians of the Bay of Islands support a shared strategy with local hapu, the Department of Conservation as managers of the public conservation estate and the many private landowners on the islands and the adjacent mainland who have, and are making, valuable contributions towards habitat restoration. The Guardians of the Bay of Islands invite you to become actively involved in conservation activities on the islands. We welcome you to join us.
